A Prayer to the Gods

Hail the gods! Hail the ancestors!

Lords and Ladies of the divine realms, ancestors, Mankind needs you more than ever. We’ve lost that which makes humanity great. We’ve lost our compassion. We dishonor our families and betray our friends. We break our oaths. We ignore the frustrations and struggles of those closest to us. We engage in hatred and discord everywhere we turn and there is no end in sight. Odin, give us wisdom! Teach us what is meaningful. Place a love for kith and kin into the hearts of all men. Place devotion for one another into our hearts, so that we can once again create beautiful societies, full of peace, invention, excitement and culture.

Ancestors, awaken your children to their obligations. Whisper courage into our souls, when we trust our fears more than our hopes. Whisper faithfulness into our souls, when we feel alone and frustrated. Whisper passion and desire into our hearts, so that we might once again long for the good, the strong and the real things in life. Whisper hope into our hearts. Whisper love into our lives. Bring us together, strengthen our homes and our communities. Make our nation strong!

Hail the gods! Hail the Ancestors!

Weakening Religions

I am sometimes embarrassed to be a pagan, or heathen, whatever you may want to call me, because so many pagans are so soft and brittle, they are not the bold images of their gods. They are the New Age crowd, the people who play make believe with their religion. This is why I love the Norse, why I love my English and Germanic ancestors. They were a strong people, violent, beautiful, and connected to the land and to the gods. The gods should be an example of passion, of power, of pride...but pagans make their gods so weak and silly. It’s not a matter of weakness or strength itself, but a matter of worldview, a matter of how we all see the world. Most pagans, sadly, see the world in such uninspiring ways. They have the gods at their fingertips and cannot even imagine their power and beauty. People are weak. Religion is weak. This grows more and more frustrating with time. I withdraw more and more, if only to shield myself from the constant disappointment in my fellowmen. I long to see some inspiration in men. I long to see something beautiful and worthwhile, but all I see is pointlessness, hollowness and shallowness.

New Conservative Foreign Policy

I think it is time that conservatives begin looking to the future and to possibily change their attitude toward international politics. Historically speaking, one of the greatest dangers to any powerful nation or empire is the wide, over-distribution of it's military. For one, because of how expensive it is and two, because it decreases our ability to defend the homeland. I think it is time to bring home America's troops from around the world and instead of trying to "save the world", try to save ourselves.

We can begin by continuing to support our allies. Buy selling more weapons, weapon systems, ground and air support to our friends in India, Israel and Japan, we can create international security through the threat of a devistating world war that everyone will be pressed to avoid. Essentially the battle lines are already being drawn for the next international arms race. The United States can protect itself, Canada and Mexico, but it can also afford to aid India, Israel and Japan. China and Russia have uped their cooperation. Europe has increasingly strong ties with Middle Eastern and African nations.

The United States, however, cannot afford to fight an ongoing war on Terror and deal with more dangerous threats such as China, Russia and North Korea. Now, no one wants to go to war with anyone else, so we'll need to stregthen America in the way of JFK and Ronald Reagan, by making America a scientific, cultural and economic power.

By bringing the troops home, we'll lose total control over the Middle East, but by supporting our allies, who share our goals, we can still create stability. Afghanistan and Iraq have proven that we can't create change in the Middle East. We tried, but we can't save these people and we can't protect ourselves. However, by reestablishing America as a scientific, cultural and economic power, we can establish peaceful economic and political influence with those who might not necessarily share our same goals and interests.

If America isn't strong at home, it will not take long for us to be weakened abroad. If we do not pull back to center, regroup and rebuild; if we continue to act like the Sole Superpower, we will eventually, I beleive, over-extend ourselves and destroy our ability to evolve.

In the end, the way to win the War on Terror is not to create a stronger Middle East. That is impossible anyway. It's to create a stronger America. It's time, I believe, to set science and education at the forefront of American Politics, to clean up our water and land, to aggressively defend our borders and to rebuild our economy, bringing back the factories and industries that were our life blood so many years back.

Myth

The great myths, from every culture, serve us by showing us what is inspiring and what is meaningful in life. By reading the old myths, we can imagine a world where men and gods value more than the petty little things in life, more than foolish pride, more than comfort, more than pleasure; we confront greatness, true glory, true sorrow and honor. Who are these gods we worship, but the embodiment of that which is greatest in heaven and earth? The same greatness exists in all things spiritual. It exists in us. Through the myths we develop relationships with the gods, awakening in ourselves that which made the gods great, that which empowered the heroes, the half gods, the emperors and the kings. The gods empower us through greatness. When they awaken our imaginations and stir our souls, they are with us. They guide our ancestors, they guide our fates and they guard our moments. Through the myths we can discover the will of the gods and to aid them in their wisdom and their plans. We can discover our true selves in the stories of the gods and goddesses, for their stories are our own.
